From Rising Fees to a 98% Reduction
The story of how MONA Payment Solutions partnered with Skyline Expoconn to lower costs, preserve their workflow, and stay with them every step of the way.
Where It Started
Larry Zollo, owner of Skyline Expoconn, had a common problem with an uncommon cost. His event and expo services business was absorbing all of its credit card processing fees as a business expense, and those fees had grown to $3,713 per month. Larry wanted relief from that number. What he was not willing to do was reinvent the way his team worked. Skyline’s invoicing lived inside QuickBooks Desktop, and the workflow around it was something the team knew well.
When Skyline Expoconn partnered with MONA, the first priority was understanding how the business actually operated before recommending anything.
The Plan
After reviewing Skyline’s setup, MONA recommended a consumer choice program, also known as dual pricing, which would shift processing costs away from the business. The program was the right fit on paper. The harder question was how to deliver it without touching the QuickBooks Desktop workflow Larry wanted to protect.
The answer was a customized Biller Genie integration. Skyline would keep its invoice formats and its accounting process. A secure payment link would be embedded inside each invoice, giving customers a simple way to pay and giving the business a clean path to the savings the dual pricing program made possible.
The goal was not to replace what was working. It was to improve it without disruption.
The Bumps, and How MONA Handled Them
This was one of MONA’s earlier integrations in this configuration, and there were challenges along the way. Rather than pass those challenges back to Skyline, MONA stayed in the middle of them. The team worked directly with Biller Genie, adjusted the setup to match Skyline’s specific invoicing needs, and kept the work moving.
At one point, Larry set a firm deadline for when the system needed to be live. MONA met it. That evening, he sent the team a short note:
“Many thanks and have a great weekend. Team Mona really did it.”
Short note, but the kind that tells you a client felt taken care of.
The Results
Once the new program was live, the impact showed up quickly and clearly.
Monthly processing fees dropped from $3,713 to $91.42. That is $3,622 in savings every month, $43,462 per year, and a projected $130,387 over three years. Skyline’s effective rate fell to 0.08 percent, a reduction of roughly 98 percent.
$3,713 per month became $91.42 per month.
There was also a quieter result worth noting. Going into the transition, it seemed possible that customers would push back on the change or shift heavily toward ACH. That did not happen. Even on higher invoice amounts, customers kept paying by card without friction. The program was structured and presented in a way that felt like a normal part of doing business with Skyline, not a new policy they had to accept.
Inside the company, the accounting workflow, the invoice formats, and the customer experience all stayed exactly the same.
In Larry’s Words
After everything was running, Larry sent MONA a longer note. A few lines from it:
“Just a note of thanks for helping us transform our payment process.
I put a lot of pressure on the Mona team to make this conversion quickly and there were some challenges. Every day it seems to get better.
We are hoping for a smooth and prosperous 2026 for us both.”
What This Story Is Really About
The numbers are the headline, and they should be. A 98 percent reduction in processing fees is the kind of result that changes a business’s bottom line. But the reason this engagement worked is not only the pricing. It is that MONA treated Skyline the way a good partner treats a client.
MONA looked at the business first and the solution second. MONA built around the workflow Skyline already trusted. When challenges came up during implementation, MONA stayed in the work instead of handing it back. When a deadline was set, MONA met it. When the client needed answers, MONA was the one picking up the phone.
That is what white-glove, concierge-level service looks like in practice. Not a slogan. A way of showing up.
